Contribution to the EU border regime
Atos is Europe's largest cloud services provider and one of the biggest beneficiaries of EU research programs. The group's former CEO, Thierry Breton, moved directly into the role of the EU commissioner for industry in 2019. Atos provides cloud infrastructure for the German and French armed forces, as well as various border protection products. Together with INDRA, Atos was involved in the SIVE system, an early project in the technological upgrade of the EU's external borders. In the area of border protection, the company offers, among other things, its "VIGIA border monitoring" system, which is designed to detect "intruders" and "targets" using artificial intelligence, among other things. Atos operates biometric databases and provides the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) with software for recognizing dialects. It also develops systems that extract data from mobile devices and automatically process the information obtained about their users for security authorities. Alongside IBM and Leonardo, Atos is part of the consortium implementing the Entry Exist System (EES).
