About the company
Deloitte is a global consulting firm headquartered in London and is one of the so-called "Big Four" auditing firms. It advises many offices, authorities and ministries and has already worked for almost all EU institutions - primarily in strategy consulting and human resources management tailored to this.
Contribution to the EU border regime
Deloitte also supported the establishment of the EU border protection agency Frontex with a corresponding assignment from 2008. As in Europe, the company also has strategy departments for border protection in the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to paid consulting, Deloitte also publishes its own brochures and studies, which are intended primarily to advance the digitalization and automation of border crossings in order to "increase security without restricting mobility." To this end, Deloitte promotes its "Smart Border Analytics Tool", which classifies travelers into risk groups according to their origin, type of visa and other criteria, identifies critical border crossings and provides both political decision-makers and "front-line officers" with information as a basis for their operational actions. In line with this, Deloitte was also commissioned by the EU to support the further development of the agency (eu-LISA) that manages the SIS II and VIS databases and, in the future, the EU's Entry/Exit system, with which all travelers are to be biometrically registered. Deloitte also undertakes smaller consulting assignments "in the field", e.g. for the EUCAP Sahel Mali mission, which is setting up and training gendarmerie and border guard units there.
