About the company
Safran is one of the largest manufacturers in Europe in the aerospace sector. The company is a supplier to Airbus and is involved in many of the major armaments projects, especially in Germany and France, including the Tiger combat helicopter, the A400M military transporter and the French multirole combat aircraft Rafale (together with Thales and Dassault).
Contribution to the EU border regime
Safran played a key role in shaping the EU research programs on security and border protection. Its subsidiary Morpho is responsible for the operation of the European Visa Information System (VIS) together with Accenture, HP and others. Morpho now offers components for biometric recording, databases and automated access controls as well as software for face recognition and person tracking i.e. at airports worldwide. Under the name MOST (The optronic mast for land surveillance), Safran itself offers infrared surveillance systems that are tailored to both military infantry requirements and civilian applications such as border and homeland security.
