Thales is one of the ten largest defence companies in the world, supplying everything from satellite communication modules and ground radars to autonomous weapon systems on ships, mainly to armed forces.
Contribution to the EU border regime
The company is a key player in the formulation and implementation of EU research funding, especially in the field of security research and border management. Together with EADS/Airbus, &Finmeccanica/Selex and ESG, Thales was involved in preliminary technical studies and with it the conceptualization of the EUROSUR border surveillance system. Thales now offers a wide range of products for border control, from biometric recording to drones. The Thales subsidiary GAF, for example, also supplies satellite images for the EU border protection agency Frontex.
